What is Rotary?
- ROTARY began in 1905 in Chicago as a business networking organisation - maybe a fore runner of BNI!
- ROTARY is a service organisation, united worldwide, helping those in need, encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations and working towards world understanding and peace.
- ROTARY is more than 1.2 million service minded people belonging to 30,000 ROTARY Clubs in 150 countries. The newest country to form a club is Palestine.
- Tarporley is one of approximately 1,900 ROTARY Clubs in the UK, which total about 50,000 members
- We are part of District 1050 - Manchester and Cheshire. This has nearly 50 clubs and approaching 1200 members
- ROTARIANS meet weekly to enjoy each others' fellowship and plan new ways to serve others.
- ROTARY is compassion for the underpriviledged, the ill and the disabled, who benefit from over 50,000 ROTARY Club service projects in the world each year.
- ROTARY runs the biggest non-government scholarship scheme in the world.
- The ROTARY FOUNDATION gives more than £21M every year to educational and humanitarian programmes which promote international understanding.
- The world headquarters are in the USA and the HQ of ROTARY in GB and Ireland (RIBI) is in Alcester - Warwickshire.
