VISIT TO MEINERZHAGEN

In May 2001, members of the Rotary Club of Tarporley and their partners made the first return visit to their twins in Germany.

The weather was absolutely brilliant for the whole weekend, with temperatures around 25c. Sunny Koln
We arrived in Meinerzhagen at about 18:30. After a brief wash & change we were taken to dinner at a forest chalet restaurant - The Owls Nest, where we were able to eat outside. Owls Nest
When it cooled down later on we were able to move inside for more fellowship around a charcoal fire, Owls Nest
On Saturday, we went off in family groups, each seeing different parts of the region. President David & Liz with Jean & Bob Atkin visited the Open Air country museum in Hagen with the Domkes and the Höllermanns. Hagen
Then in the evening - the highlight of the trip. Dinner in the banqueting hall of the Castle Altena. Here are Presidents David and Manfred wishing each other luck with their speeches! Presidents
It was such a romantic evening that some people got quite horny! Horn of plenty
A superb evening with a minstrel host, speeches from both presidents, and excellent atmosphere

On Sunday we all went by luxury coach to Cologne. (But not this bus!).
Luckily the shops were closed, although that didn't stop the ladies looking. Windows shopping
Some of the men also did some 'window shopping'.

While others just enjoyed the sunshine.

And President Dave was a bit wooden at times!

However, we all really really enjoyed it!

We visited all the best sites around the Cathedral and the AltStadt before being coached back to the airport again to catch the plane back to wet Manchester. Boooo!

It really was a superb weekend. Our hosts were excellent and generous entertainers, and our twin relationship was well and truly confirmed! We are now all looking forward to meeting again - possibly in Brugges in 2002.
